PE day: Swifts (Thursday morning) Owls (Friday afternoon)

Amount of time which should be spent reading every day: Children should spend at least 15-20 minutes a day reading. This can be broken up, for example: 10 minutes before dinner time and 10 minutes before bedtime.

Key Spellings/spelling patterns for the term: Children will receive a set of spellings each week. These should be practiced every day at home. There will be a spelling test the following Thursday.

Key maths facts which your child needs to know this term:

  • Read and write numbers up to 1000 in numerals and in words.
  • All pairs of multiples of 10 with totals up to 100.
  • Add and subtract any single-digit number to or from a multiple of 10.
  • Add or subtract a multiple of 10 to or from any two-digit number.
  • 2, 5, 10 and 3 multiplication tables.

 

Literacy overview:

Our topic for this half term is Pirates! We will begin by looking at rhyming poetry and writing our own pirate poems. We will then progress to learning about and writing our own adventure stories. Later in the half term, we will then look at non-fiction writing linked to this topic.

Maths overview:

During this half term, we will be focusing on understanding place value in 3-digit numbers. We will be looking at mental calculation strategies and begin to use written methods for both addition and subtraction. We will also be learning about the properties of shapes.

All other subjects

Art and Design: Designing a container for money.

Science: Investigating forces and magnets.

PE: Invasion games and gymnastics.

ICT: E-safety and using software to present information.

Music: Learning about beat and rhythm.
